My Success Story from Overworked in Service and 1099 Driver Industry - Entrepreneurship Dreams Can be Achieved

Buckle up; here is my story. This is David's journey from a burnt-out delivery driver to a thriving business owner.

Eleven years ago, David was just like you! I was stuck in a corporate sales job. My income was average. I had three kids; the oldest wanted to attend college in a few years. I knew I had to get something going on the side to be able to afford the upcoming expenses.

I had some prior food delivery experience.

Grubhub, Doordash, and Uber Eats were new and operated only in large cities. So, I decided to start my restaurant delivery service. BingoEats

I found a good software package, including a custom website, dispatch software, and all the bells and whistles. I just needed to talk with local restaurants and sell the concept. It was all new to restaurants back in 2013. But I was determined to make it work. I could sign 15 restaurants and hire some drivers, who would be paid per delivery plus tips.

Later, I had deals with 35+ restaurants within two years. This was all done while I was working my day job…..Crazy times!

Later, I had deals with 35+ restaurants within two years. This was all done while I was working my day job…..Crazy times!

 I earned the extra money needed to send my first child to college and the following two children to college.

We were doing great for four years and had little to no competition. Things were good. It was a lot of work… but good.

Then the big three landed in town! GB, DD, and UE.

It was game on! I needed to profit, as the Big 3 kept giving stuff away to acquire new customers and establish themselves in my area. I folded into a franchise called Mr Delivery. This was a big help. Mr Delivery allowed me to delegate some of my business duties.

Competing with corporate America in town was getting more challenging, which had unlimited funds to spend.

Then, I got a call from the local owners of Papa Johns in town.

They asked if I was interested in staffing delivery drivers to run their in-house deliveries. Papa John was doing 600 plus deliveries a week.

 That’s a lot of delivery volume!

I said I would think of a way to do it. I didn’t want to say no, but I needed time to determine whether it was possible.

I couldn’t run it through my current Mr. Delivery system. They charged too much money per order.

Then it hit me! I came up with a new concept and system. I pitched it to Papa John's owners, and they said, "OK, let’s do it."

I had no idea what I was in for. I'm still running my restaurant delivery service, and now I’m running a new delivery concept, staffing with independent contractor drivers at Papa Johns. Oh, yeah, and I’m still working my day job.

Between the two businesses, there were around 1,000 deliveries a week. I’m making money off each delivery and not doing any deliveries myself. Crazy man! There have been a lot of trials and errors along the way.

The writing was on the wall. As time went on, the big 3 got the best of me. So, I lined up more staffing accounts at local pizzerias to staff drivers. Now, I just run the staffing agency. I used to work 60-plus hours a week. I might work about 10 hours to run icDrivers. And I don’t work my day job anymore. I broke free from corporate America.

 I have perfected the delivery driver staffing biz!

 I have a custom drivers app and a customer driver recruitment and hiring website. Running a business in the delivery world is straightforward.

No more consumer complaints or order corrections
